... Midsummer is the
flowering season of the oak, which is the tree
of endurance and triumph, and like the ash is
said to 'court the lightning flash'. Its roots
are believed to extend as deep underground as
its branches rise in the air - Virgil mentions
this - which makes it emblematic of a god whose
law runs both in Heaven and in the Underworld
... The month, which takes its name from
Juppiter the oak-god, begins on June 10th
and ends of July 7th. Midway comes St. John's
Day, June 24th, the day on which the oak-king
was sacrificially burned alive. The Celtic year
was divided into two halves with the second half
beginning in July, apparently after a seven-day
wake, or funeral feast, in the oak-king's honour

Both the

The

These
stones

by
stones

Hercules and lived to the age of 110 years. 110 was a
canonical number, the ideal age which every Egyptian
wished to reach and the age at which, for example, the
patriarch Joseph died. The 110 years were made up of
twenty-two Etruscan lustra of five years each;
and 110 years composed the 'cycle' taken over from the
Etruscans by the Romans. At the end of each cycle they
corrected irregularities in the solar calendar by
intercalation and held Secular Games

The addition of 16 days ought to have been a feature of
the half-year when the blinding rays from the Sun were present.
... Like the sun, chiefs of the highest
tabus - those who are called 'gods', 'fire', 'heat', and
'raging blazes' - cannot be gazed directly upon without
injury. The lowly commoner prostrates before them face to

And therefore we ought to perceive the place for Mars in January
20 in the diagram to be at Tegmine:
But whereas the Sun had only one 'wing' (half the time he was
not flying high but was under the surface of the earth, not
to be seen) the
Moon had a pair of wings.
... In Wales as
a boy I learned to respect the
lapwing for
the wonderful way in which she camouflages and conceals her
eggs in an open field from any casual passer-by. At first I
was fooled every time by her agonized peewit,
peewit, screamed from the contrary direction to the one
in which her eggs lay, and sometimes when she realized that
I was a nest-robber, she would flap about along the ground,
pretending to have a broken wing and inviting capture.
But as soon as I had found one nest I
could find many. The lapwing's poetic meaning is 'Disguise
the Secret' and it is her extraordinary discretion which
gives her the claim to sanctity. According to the Koran
she was the repository of King Solomon's secrets and the
most intelligent of the flock of prophetic birds that
attended him ...
...
Antares, visible in the morning sky of December-January,
came to stand for summer heat; hence the saying, 'Rehua
cooks (ripens) all fruit' [hakatupu]. The generally
accepted version of the Rehua myth, according to
Best, is that Rehua had two wives, the stars on
either side of Antares. One was Ruhi-te-rangi or
Pekehawani, the personification of summer languor (ruhi),
the other Whaka-onge-kai, She-who-makes-food-scarce
before the new crops can be harvested ...
... Ira, Raparenga, Uure,
Nonoma, and Ringiringi got up and left the
'Dark abyss of Hau Maka' (i.e., Rano Kau),
arrived at Hanga Te Pau, put the canoe
into the water, and sailed off to Hiva, to Maori.
Ira left on the twenty-fifth day of the month of
October (Tangaroa Uri). When Ira's
canoe reached the islets (off the southwestern coast),
Makoi (who was staying behind) shouted the following
(after him): Eight lands (are there), one has been found
(or, an eighth land has been found for the first time,
evaru kainga katahi i revaa), that is, Te Pito O Te
Kainga. During the fast journey, one cannot find the
seven lands in the midst of dim twilight. Once (Easter
Island) has been lost, not even eight groups of people
(i.e., countless boat crews) can find (it) again. - Ruhi
to the right, Pu to the left, necklace around the
neck of Hinariru at Papa O Rae! [E:86]
→ 2 *
107 = 214:
... Once upon a time there was an old
woman who owned a great potato field (mara) where she
planted her potatoes in spring and harvested them in autumn.
She was famous all around for her many varieties of
wonderful potatoes, and she had enough of them to sell at
the market place. She planted her potatoes 7 in a row,
placing her foot in front of her as a measure from one
potato to the next. Then she marked the place with a bean -
which would also give nourishment to the surrounding
potatoes. Next she changed variety and planted 7 more
followed by another bean, and this was the pattern she
followed until all her 214 varieties had been put down in
their proper places. She had drawn a map which she followed
and from where each sort of potato could be located at the
proper time for its harvest. I was fashinated, when I
happened to stumble on this Swedish TV program, because my
'once upon a time' was now and 214 (=
2 * 107) was surely no coincidence. She knew what she
was doing. Let's therefore count: 214 * 7 (potatoes) + 213
(beans) = 1711. So what? Probably because 1711 = 59 * 29
...
Here we should recall the
back side of Pachamama (the
Earth goddess). Her
tresses can be counted as 182 to the right (→ Sun
present, Ruhi) and as 214 to the
left (→ Sun absent → female, Pu). 214 - 182 = 32 = 2 * 16.
One of several possible ways to
understand number
214 could be to count
354 - 214 = 140
→ 2 * 70 → 270 → the
day number for
September 27. And 20 weeks (140) equals 500 -
360 = 365 + 135 (May
15) - 360.
... The Hawaiian woman who was interviewed chuckled because
the assassination of
Captain Cook coincided with the day we have named All
Hearts' Day - when in February 14 (2-14) the war-god
Kuu returned to power ...
