31. There is one more fish-hook in the G text, a specimen which makes it possible for the reader to confirm its association with the last day of the first half of the year. To find it we have to move 213 glyphs ahead from the bright Vega, the star which was at the celestial north pole about half a precessional year ago:

By continuing to count right ascension days past the end of side a of the tablet and without interruption go on to the beginning of the text on side b it will be possible to find out the date at Gb1-18, where 118 could allude to 4 * 29½ = (1½ * 314 + 1) / 4.

Probably the creator of the G text has here indicated the precessional distance down to Roman times when the Julian calendar established the correct relationships between the stars and the dates.

At that time, 27 precessional days previous to the time of rongorongo (and 27 - 4 = 23 days previous to the time of Gregory XIII), the Rotten Melon (ε Delphini) would have been at the Full Moon when Sirius rose with the Sun in 'June 30.

In Roman times heliacal Al Tarf (the End), i.e. β Cancri, preceded Sirius with 4 days and was rising with the Sun in day 177 = 6 * 29½.

And at that time the Full Moon was at Gredi (α Capricorni).
