There are 2 + 4 = 6 simple tao glyphs in the text of G:
Ga1-22 Ga1-25
Gb1-24 Gb2-12 Gb3-2 Gb7-17

The first two could, perhaps, represent the double-canoe which should arrive beyond winter solstice. But the 4 on side b are different, which can be seen for instance in the top point which is bent a little to the left. They are also carved stronger, another sign.

Ordinal number 22 could refer to 22 / 7 = 3.14 and 25 is equal to 5 * 5.

Maybe the deeper incisions for the 4 on side b indicate darkness. The canoes are turned upside down, having become hare paega.

Nearly imperceptible are other signs: Those 2 tao glyphs on side a are vertically assymmetric, wider at the bottom end (as if a sign of growth). Gb2-12 and Gb7-17 share a trait consisting of two 'billows' at right, maybe alluding to such a sign as e.g. at left in Eb7-29:

I decide to add the redmarked:

But the 4 on side b are different, which can be seen for instance in the top point which is bent a little to the left. They are also carved stronger, another sign (maybe intended to suggest darkness, as inside a hare paega).

Ordinal number 22 could refer to 22 / 7 = 3.14 and 25 is equal to 5 * 5. Ga1-22 and Ga1-25 are vertically assymmetric, with wider bottom ends, as if to suggest growth (from bottom upwards).

Ga1-25 comes immediately before viri in Ga1-26:
258 208
Gb1-6 Ga1-22 (1) Ga1-23 Ga1-24 Ga1-25 Ga1-26
261 = 9 * 29
472 = 16 * 29 + 8 (= 16 * 29.5)

Counting from Gb1-6 will (of course) reach all the way past One Tea to Te Piringa Aniva (at 1 * 29.5):

Ga1-27 Ga1-28 Ga1-29 (8) Ga1-30

The 'gathering place of the island population' (in order to give the king feathers and other gifts) could be a way to help him in his important business of making sun reappear. At least it is clear that the dark time is about to vanish. Sun should begin to move again, and a canoe makes for quick and easy travel.

"... on the first day of the year the natives dress in navy uniforms and performs exercises which imitate the maneuvers of ships' crews ..." (Métraux)

472 = 16 * 29 + 8 is here suggested to indicate an 8-glyph sequence for the rebirth of the sun:

Ga1-22 (1) Ga1-23 Ga1-24 Ga1-25
Ga1-26 Ga1-27 Ga1-28 Ga1-29 (8) Ga1-30

Rei in Ga1-30 sits at the end of line a1 (not at the beginning of line a2) and the reason may be to indicate that time is counted by multiples of 29.5.

208 = 8 * 26 and 258 = 6 * 43. Tao in Ga1-25 seems to be the main 'word' with the following special viri in Ga1-26 functioning as a supporting sign eliminating any doubts.

Counting from Gb8-30 tao in Ga1-25 will be number 26 and Gb1-6 number 236 (= 8 * 29.5 = 8 * 29 + 4):

Gb1-1 Gb1-2 (232) Gb1-3 Gb1-4 Gb1-5
Gb1-6 (236) Gb1-7 Gb1-8 Gb1-9 Gb1-10
Gb1-11 Gb1-12 Gb1-13 Gb1-14 Gb1-15
Gb1-16 Gb1-17 Gb1-18 Gb1-19

Counting in multiples of 29 maybe should begin with Gb1-7 as number 0, in which case 9 * 29 = 261 will arrive at Ga1-25:

257
Gb1-7 Ga1-22 (1) Ga1-23 Ga1-24 Ga1-25 (261)
261 = 9 * 29

In order to reach 16 * 29 = 464 only an additional 7 * 29 = 203 glyphs will then be necessary:

203
Ga1-26 (262) Ga1-27 Ga1-28 Ga1-29 Ga1-30 (266) Gb1-5 Gb1-6 (471) Gb1-7 (0)

266 at Ga1-30 is certainly a good sign. It is like Te Pou:

Gb2-9 Gb2-10 Gb2-11 (266) Gb2-12
Gb2-13 Gb2-14 Gb2-15
Gb2-16 Gb2-17 Gb2-18

266 at Gb2-11 necessitates counting from Ga8-30 (otherwise Gb2-12 will be number 266). Counting to 266 at Ga1-30 does not necessitate counting Ga8-30 twice (which would be a quite unnatural thing to do).

If we count Gb2-12 as 266, Te Pou will involve also tao, and the remarkable π glyph will have number 268:

Gb2-9 Gb2-10 Gb2-11 Gb2-12 (266)
Gb2-13 Gb2-14 (268) Gb2-15
Gb2-16 Gb2-17 Gb2-18
