Remember that we have the
'sitting shark' in 5a1.
Perhaps this shadowy shark
shows its tail in order to
indicate that the end is
near? He gives us a double
sign: a tail means end and
he bends his tail to show
darkness. The glyph immediately preceding this sitting shark
also signals darkness. I think that marks around the perimeter of a glyph indicates 'wrapped up' = not visible. I have earlier noted that periods nos. 2 and 5 are special. Presumably in these two periods the sun is standing still (solstice) and soon the wheel of time is slowly about to turn around again. The prescient have felt the advent of the new half-year and it is a time of sitting down, 'seating'. 5 - 2 = 3 = half a year. I guess that in period no. 2 the sun is (re-)born and in period no. 5 he is (re-)dying. This structure of the sun must have consequences for the visibility of Matariki.
