In the 'a' group we have so far found no variants of GD53, but now they appear here in period 5. (Otherwise GD53 is always appearing in 'b' and nowhere to be found in 'c'.)

The right part of this glyph, the 'staff', indicates that there is no sunlight, at least that is my belief. In the Keiti calendar of the moon it was - as I have tried to show earlier - used (together with the ordinary moon-sickle) to indicate 'night' (though presumably with at least some difference in meaning).

This 'night staff' can be seen as henua with haga on top, a period of time but not in the light of the sun. In GD79 I have tried to indicate what this type of glyph fundamentally means.

Notably this is the only glyph in this Matariki calendar which combines GD53 and GD79. Should we read that here in period no. 5 Matariki is not visible?
