Much detail can be discovered in these different Maitaki glyphs. As regards the various types of 'arms' I now guess this type of glyph might be showing a kind of growth:

Earlier I had the idea that the 'Clara-knife' could be a sign of power and command.

A King should have objects asserting his power and command. These were often three, viz. a Crown, an Apple and a Sceptre. Possibly we should regard the 'Clara-knife' as corresponding to such a sceptre.

But then we must ask why the King has a sceptre, a crown, and an apple. The Crown might be a sign pointing towards the heavens, making clear that there is contact between the King and the gods above.

The Apple could be connected with the harvest season, the fruits of all labours.

... Atea then became the wife of Rua-tupua-nui, Source of Great Growth, and they became the parents of all the celestial beings, first the shooting stars, then the Moon and the Sun, next the comets, then the multitude of stars and constellations, and finally the bright and dark nebulae. When this tremendous task had been accomplished Atea took a third husband, Fa'a-hotu, Make Fruitful. Then occurred a curious event. Whether Atea had wearied of bringing forth offspring we are not told, but certain it is that Atea and her husband Fa'a-hotu exchanged sexes. Then the eyes of Atea glanced down at those of his wife Hotu and they begat Ru. It was this Ru who explored the whole earth and divided it into north, south, east, and west ...

And therefore the Sceptre could 'personify' spring time, when sprouts (= 'sceptres') will start to grow.

For the Mayas time was running from right to left. Therefore we can perceive the picture above as resembling that in Hb3-14 (→ March 14):
