Orongo
is the name
of the
famous place
at the
extreme
southwest of
the main
island, from
where the
yearly
bird-man
contest
could be
wathced.
And in the night sky the blinking Mira could be
observed.
... Although an old
constellation, Cetus is by no means of special interest, except as
possessing the south pole of the Milky Way and the Wonderful Star,
the variable Mira [ο]; and from the fact that it is a condensation
point of nebulae directly across the sphere from Virgo, also noted
in this respect.
I have coordinated the Orongo night with
right ascension day 209 (Ca9-10) and from there up to and including
Orongo Tane (RA day 216) there is a week. But in the calendar of
the month Orongo Tane follows immediately after the
Orongo night.
O-ctober is ending where the Arabic manzil calendar
has its day 168 = Auva 11 (as if to say one more 'egg', which I
guess the word auva means):
In the night sky the northern Fly announced the
beginning of the Hindu Bharani station:

has a hanging fish with the string is cut off (as if it was a navel
string). Menkar (the 'nose' of the 'fish' Cetus,
α) rose heliacally in manzil day
354 (= 12 * 29½).
The nights Ohiro and Oata belong at the end of the
moon calendar but maybe also at the beginning of the next month.
