We should document in a table the grand picture which I here have suggested:
Hanga Te Pau here occurs where it should be according to G, viz. as day 366, not as day 368. 36 * 8 = 288, as if to say 28 sunlit moon nights times 8, and the remarkable sequence (1336, 468, 368, 288) will continue with 28 * 8 = 224 which gives as a result 88, then 64, 24, and a final 8. It is easy to 'count down', but how can we count the reverse process, 'count up'? Both the sequence of 368 and the sequence of 300 days begin on side b, but the sequence with 300 days never visits side a. 368 begins 22½ days from the end of side b and ends 10½ days into the beginning of side b. 22½ + 10½ + 335 = 368. On side a Te Pei is located so that 472 - 45 = 427:
670 - 427 = 243 glyphs remain to the end of side a, but the text continues onto side b:
Metoro began reading with side b. He may have seen koti in day 355. Ab4-36 is the koti glyph which remains to discuss, and it is located among the 300 days. If the kuhane stations continue also in these 300 days, the location of Ab4-36 must be beyond Hatinga Te Kohe. Yes, even beyond Hanga Takaure: Counted from Ab8-41 its number is 45 + 670 + 244 + 36 = 995, which means day 497.5 - not reaching to the 17th station (17 * 29.5 = 501.5). Koti in Ab4-36 is in Hanga Takaure. Maybe more to the point: Counting glyphs from the beginning of those 300 days: 995 - 736 = 259, or the first half of day 130. |
