TRANSLATIONS
The Mamari moon calendar has 2 * 36 glyphs, symmetrically ordered 36 in the first 4 periods and 36 is the last 4:
In the 3rd period Ca7-16 (Ohotu?) probably marks 'the end' of a sequence of glyphs, and the table ought to show this:
28 + 18 + 26 = 2 * 36 = 72. Adding odd numbers would result in waxing phase having 8 + 20 glyphs, sun phase having 8 + 10, and waning 18 + 8. While the waxing and sun phases have periods with 8 glyphs at the beginning, waning (as in a mirror) has its 8-glyph group at the end. Reading waning moons first two periods (6 and 7) together to reach 18 glyphs implies sun continues until we reach the 8th and final period. There is no 'night' (marama) glyph in the 8th period. Although waxing and waning moon at first can be regarded as the 2 faces of the moon, we must add the 3rd and most beautiful en face phase, full moon. Considering the fact that sun here illuminates the whole 'fruit', it is natural to use 18 glyphs (indicating sun) for the central phase of the calendar. Let us finish the session around the Mamari moon calendar with an updated version of my interpretation:
