Van Tilburg has interesting remarks regarding the Pleiades: "The Rapa Nui ethnographers say that 'old men' watched the stars on Poike, from a cave on the west coast or from near an ahu where six boulders represented the Pleiades…"
I wonder if these six boulders were arranged as the
stars in the sky, i.e. with four central
ones and two at the left. And what orientation did
the pattern of stones have?
Stones can represent stars and therefore it does not surprise me that tau is a word that can mean both stone and star. Possibly there is an objective reality connecting these things too. Sometimes after all, such stars which are falling down from the sky to mother earth are found to be hot stones. Many such stones had been falling from Taurus some millenia ago. |
