1st period One little and one big toki. Hand down.

2nd period Two big toki, one as elbow ornament the other with a sign looking like rangi. Hand up and outwards oriented. (Tahitian rava = shadow.)

3rd period Big toki. Hand up and towards head, the arm probably representing a little toki.

4th period One little and one big toki. (ura = lobster. ūra = flame.)

5th period Similar to no. 8, but two ears (eyes?) and open elbow ornament (like in Ea5-1).

6th period Little toki now bigger. No elbow ornament. Strange undulating sign, ara (= 1. road, path; ladder. 2. to wake up, to concentrate.)

7th period No elbow ornament. Little tea without eye. Vaero (= chicken's long tail feather or lobster's antenna).
