9-9. The front (upper, male) side of the Phaistos disc has a somewhat longer text than the bottom side (with 118 signs). At a first look we can see there are 5 more (= 123 - 118). On the other hand, we could then perceive a Sign in form of a fused triplet of signs immediately preceding the scarab (the only such on side a whereas there is a pair of them on side b):
... Watching TV does give some knowledge. For instance was I told that modern science now had discovered that the scarab beetle had the unique ability to orient itself from the direction of the Milky Way. Surely, I thought, this must once upon a time had been well known (common knowledge) ...
Therefore we could perceive not 123 but 121 days on the top side of the disc, which surely will make us think of Bharani (*41, day 121, May 1, Beltaine):
And from there we can observe that there are 15 right ascension days from Bharani (121) to Alcyone in the Pleiades (136). In other words, the distance between this pair of fundamental stars was 1h, because with a measure of 24h all around 1h should correspond to 360 (°) and 360 / 24 = 15. Furthermore 360 / 8 = 45 = 3 * 15.
123 - 15 = 108:
... About Carmenta we know from the historian Dionysus Periergetis that she gave orcales to Hercules and lived to the age of 110 years. 110 was a canonical number, the ideal age which every Egyptian wished to reach and the age at which, for example, the patriarch Joseph died. The 110 years were made up of twenty-two Etruscan lustra of five years each; and 110 years composed the 'cycle' taken over from the Etruscans by the Romans. At the end of each cycle they corrected irregularities in the solar calendar by intercalation and held Secular Games. The secret sense of 22 - sacred numbers were never chosen haphazardly - is that it is the measure of the circumference of the circle when the diameter is 7. This proportion, now known as pi, is no longer a religious secret; and is used today only as a rule-of-thumb formula, the real mathematical value of pi being a decimal figure which nobody has yet been able work out because it goes on without ever ending, as 22 / 7 does, in a neat recurring sequence [3.142857142857 ...]. Seven lustra add up to thirty-five years, and thirty-five at Rome was the age at which a man was held to reach his prime and might be elected Consul. (The same age was fixed upon by a Classically-minded Convention as the earliest at which an American might be elected President of the United States.) ... 123 -107 = 16. This fact suggests the real measure for the top side of the Phaistos disc in a way was the time-space distance 107 right ascension days plus what was needed in order to reach the day when late at night the last star in the sequence returned to visiblitly after its close encounter with the Sun.
