4. We have reason to guess time was anciently counted only
'in daytime'. 10 lunar months (295 nights) is not enough to
cover a whole year.
On Easter Island the names of the months (marama)
were:
Tua haro, Tehetu'upú, Tarahao, Vaitu nui, Vaitu potu, He Maro, He Anakena, Hora iti, Hora nui, Tagaroa uri, Ko Ruti, Ko Koró.
The 'slash of Marduk' was evidently done between He Maro
and He Anakena. The definite article is he:
He, article, also verbal prefix. Hé, where? I hé, where; ki hé, whereto; mai hé, wherefrom. Article. P Mgv., Mq.: e, the. Sa.: se, id. Pau.: He, false, crooked. Mgv.: hehe, crazy, to wander. Ta.: he, error. Mq.: he, confusion. Sa.: sesē, wrong. Ma.: he, a mistake. Mgv.: He, a locust pest of coconuts. Ta.: he, caterpillar. Mq.: he, grasshopper. Sa.: se, id. Ma.: whe, caterpillar.
With interest we can read the associations of he. The
'caterpillar' (including his relatives the grasshopper and
the locust pest of coconuts) is easy, it refers to the
season of voracious eating and growing (kai), the
coming spring.
False, error, mistake, crazy, to wander astray, indicates
the obviously wrong in locating the birth of spring at
winter solstice. Everyone can see it is too early.
Also, it has a double meaning by referring to the weak 'son
of Sun' who will rule for 24 hours only, the false interrex:
... the annual sacrifice of a royal prince, on the one day reckoned as belonging to the terrestrial, but not to the sidereal year, namely that which followed the shortest day ... Here we should note 'terrestrial' in contrast to 'sidereal'. It means 'land' in contrast to 'sky'. The 'watery region of night' is high up in the sky, while Marduk has his place down on earth. In ancient Egypt the goddess Nut personified the night sky:
Lockyer has written Nu-t in order to underline the sign of a female (t). The 'fake' day of earth in the middle of the night is in rongorongo written in another way than the normal earth (henua) sign, viz. with 'indented' (like bite marks) short ends:
