It was easy for me to perceive how number 314 could have been used in the rongorongo texts, e.g. as half 628 (the number of glyphs in the E text), but 71 totally escaped my attention. However, lately I have come to suspect 71 may have been another 'cosmological' number (e.g. equal to the number of solar years for advancing 1 'precessional day').

First we saw that beyond heliacal Spica there were 171 days remaining to the end of side b, an uniteresting number which made me wonder if I had gone astray. Although 9 * 19 = 171 it did not seem quite remarkable enough. And if we should adjust down Spica and Alcor at RA 202.7 from October 10 (283) to October 9 (282) - corresponding to a change of the RA fraction with 0.4 - then 348 (number of glyphs on side b) becomes 176 + 172, which appeared to destroy my idea of 171 = 100 + 71:

April 17 (107) 18 19 172 October 9 10 (283)
October 16 17 (290) 18 April 9 10 (100)
Cb1-1 (393) Cb1-2 Cb1-3 Cb8-5 Cb8-6 (177)

176 = 88 + 88, and 88 (synodic cycle of Mercury) + 172 (June 21 counted from January 1) = 260.

But then we would discover 71 Virginis (at the beginning of the asterism Mons Menalus, like a 'virginal mound'). And then we could count April 9 as day 99 + 366 = 465, a Sign for the last night according to a calendar with a cycle 100 days longer than that of the Gregorian:

Gb8-22 Gb8-23 (465) Gb8-24 Gb8-25

May 15 16 (136) 17 18

Someone has (maybe Significantly) put star 71 in Virginis, outside Bootes. I guess the beginning of the 'Primeval Mound' had to be in Virgo. Together with the close by star 59 Virginis we can find 71 + 59 = 130.

... Ta'aroa tahi tumu, 'Ta'aroa origl. stock' - most commonly Ta'aroa or Te Tumu - existed before everything except of a rock (Te Papa) which he compressed and begat a daughter (Ahuone) that is Vegetable Mole.

Ahuone means 'earth heaped up' - a widespread name for the Polynesian first woman. It sounds as if Cook also heard the term applied to the banks of humus and rotting material on which taro is grown. In the English of his day this was known as 'vegetable mould' ...

RA day 203 (71 Virginis) = Gregorian day 80 + 203 = 283 (October 10) and if then we should add 71 it becomes 354 (December 20). Number 71 appears to be useful. Furthermore, 295 + 71 = 366.

And then we should remember 71 as the distance from atariki in October 16 (289) to atariki at left in December 26 (360):

182 October 16 (289) 70 December 26 (360) 35 January 31 (396) 58

 Atlas (365)

After having found Aquarius and the Southern Fish depicted where they did not rise with the Sun (Ca1-6--7) - but perhaps as a pair instead used as a very clear Sign of the dark nights before the returning Land ('Ebb') - it seems reasonable to allow interpretations also from the nakshatra side, and then I think Betelgeuze could have been alluded to in Cb10-15. Water is flowing - although Metoro said te matagi - and this was where the Milky Way touched Betelgeuze, changing him into a victim (rau hei).

Similarly can we imagine Atlas without his celestial globe in Cb11-7, because a cycle ended with day 364 or with June 31.
