Possibly there were 12 vae days
between 'nighttime' and 'daytime' - like the 'side timbers'
(vae) between the 'hairy side' and the 'front side'.
These 'side timbers' may have been made to
depart (kua oho) in a certain proper order before the
'hairy side' of the year was quite finished, 'asleep' (moe):
