3. The distance from Alrai to Polaris is 01h 49m - 23h 37m = 109 + 23 = 132m, which means 33 days (= 132 / 4):
It should be remembered that 33 days was a period connected with the new year ceremonies on Hawaii, a fact that possibly can be explained as a way to implement a model from south of the equator, based on the appearance of the Cepheid meteors from the 10th to the 28th of June: ... in the ceremonial course of the coming year, the king is symbolically transposed toward the Lono pole of Hawaiian divinity ... It need only be noticed that the renewal of kingship at the climax of the Makahiki coincides with the rebirth of nature. For in the ideal ritual calendar, the kali'i battle follows the autumnal appearance of the Pleiades, by thirty-three days - thus precisely, in the late eighteenth century, 21 December, the winter solstice. The king returns to power with the sun ... But they had to use the Pleiades instead, and this cluster of small stars (mata-riki) could serve as a sign similar to the swarm of meteors in Cepheus. However, there evidently could have been an interregnum which was a week longer (cfr The 2 Wives of Sun): ... Under Mosaic law, a mother who had given birth to a man-child was considered unclean for seven days; moreover she was to remain for three and thirty days 'in the blood of her purification', which makes a total of 40 days .... ... It is hard to avoid thinking about Candlemas (40 days beyond birth), when the new baby boy was brought into the temple, probably an idea not very much different from the Egyptian sanctuary of Upwaut, the Opener of the Way (i.e. the path of Sun): If we count 40 days beyond Alrai we evidently will arrive at the end of line b7, because 402.2 + 40 = 442.
In Gb7-30 there are 'cut-up limbs' and presumably 'a little new one' at bottom right. In the following glyph we can count 7 * 31 = 217 = 216 + 1. But we have to postpone the further investigation until we arrive to the stars and glyphs in the 3rd right ascension hour. |
