4. But the constellations are not our primary goal for the moment. Instead we should continue to concentrate on the individual stars. All those 6 stars of Cassiopeia we have listed can be put in parallel with glyphs in the G text:
A star does not arrive until it reaches its right ascension position, and I have mechanically put each star at the glyph which is closest to what its current right ascension indicates, e.g. Ksora at Gb7-18 although its day number - according to my convention - is 429.1. For Caph and Sirrah, though, I have chosen to keep their positions at Rogo. There are 12 stars distributed over 14 + 6 + 12 = 32 glyphs but none of them are at the central 6:
But we must remember there are still 5 further stars to consider (Mesarthim, Metallah, Mirach, Polaris, and Sheratan). The first 14 + 6 = 20 glyphs could be connected with Moon and the following 12 with Sun.
Notably Moon comes first, not Sun. 6 + 12 = 18 could possibly refer to the half-year of Sun, because 18 * 10 = 180. Alternatively we should count with 20 days both for the season of Moon and for the season of Sun. 18 * 20 = 360 and 14 * 20 = 280. Moreover, 12 * 20 = 240 and 6 * 20 = 120 (= 360 - 240), and 120 could therefore reflect the part of the solar year which comes beyond the first ⅔. Then, considering the fact that 280 + 120 = 400 it is possible to regard the central 6 glyphs as referring both to Sun and to Moon. Ksora at the right knee of Cassiopeia ought to be at a cardinal point (because joints are signs of such - it is much easier to chop up a 'body' where there are 'joints' than across the 'bones'). Ksora evidently is at gagana in Gb7-18, and this could then be the first glyph of 12 for the Sun. Could it mean there will be no Sun light (north of the equator) until Achernar is rising heliacally? Or must we wait until the Belly of the Whale (Baten Kaitos) has released its 'roe'? Or maybe the knot at Alrisha represents the 'corner'? Glyph number 440 is perhaps the best guess - ragi has a crescent in front (and there are 14 glyphs from the oppositely oriented crescent in Gb7-15). Beyond Gb7-29 there are 32 glyphs to the end of side b:
32 = 14 + 6 + 12. In the complex glyph Gb7-30 the basic sign is that of 'cut-up limbs'. |
