The beginning of the Milky Way was close to
Sagittarius and the Babylonian Cargo Boat had a blackened
('hairy') head onboard.
In other words, it was the time of the year which corresponded to
the dark night of the Moon (Omutu).
Mutu
1. Cut short, shortened, amputated; at an
end, ceased; anything cut off short; short, brief, quick
(rare). Ua muku ko'u lole, my dress is
shortened. He kanaka wāwae muku, a person with
amputated foot. Huli muku a'ela nā wa'a, the
canoes turned sharply. (PPN mutu.) 2. A measure
of length from fingertips of one hand to the elbow of
the other arm, when both arms are extended to the side.
3. Broken section of a wave or crest. See lala 1.
4. Same as Mumuku, a wind. 5. Thirtieth night
of the moon, when it has entirely disappeared (muku).
6. Starboard ends of 'iako (outrigger booms),
hence starboard sides of a canoe. Wehewehe. |
... The mythic
function of the Cargo-Boat is probably to transport the souls of
new-born children from the ancestral realms towards the realms
of living ...
The birth of a new ruler implied there was a new
point to count from - a
new t measure of duration to be used.
.. 'Tell us a story!'
said the March Hare. 'Yes, please do!' pleaded Alice. 'And be
quick about it', added the Hatter, 'or you'll be asleep again
before it's done.' 'Once upon a time there were three little
sisters', the Dormouse began in a great hurry: 'and their names
were Elsie [ε Sagittarii, Kaus
Australis], Lacie [λ, Kaus
Borealis], and Tillie[τ]; and they lived at the bottom of a
well — '
'What did they live
on?' said Alice, who always took a great interest in questions
of eating and drinking. 'They lived on treacle,' said the
Dormouse
[alluding to the
solstice], after thinking a minute or two. 'They couldn't have
done that, you know', Alice gently remarked. 'They'd have been
ill.' 'So they were', said the Dormouse; 'very ill'.
Alice tried a little to fancy herself what such an extraordinary
way of living would be like, but it puzzled her too much: so she
went on : 'But why did they live at the bottom of a well?'
'Take some more tea
[= t as in duration of time]', the March Hare said to Alice,
very earnestly. 'I've had nothing yet', Alice replied in an
offended tone: 'so I can't take more [<]'.
'You mean you
can't take less
[>]', said the
Hatter: 'it's very easy to take more than nothing'. 'Nobody
asked your opinion',
said
Alice. 'Who's making personal remarks now?' the Hatter remarked
triumphantly.
Alice did not quite
know what to say to this: so she helped herself to some tea and
bread-and-butter, and then turned to the Dormouse, and repeated
her question. 'Why did they live at the bottom of a well?' The
Dormouse again took a minute or two to think about it, and then
said 'It was a treacle-well.' 'There's no such thing!' Alice was
beginning very angrily, but the Hatter and the March Hare went
'Sh! Sh!' and the Dormouse sulkily remarked 'If you ca'n't be
civil, you'd better finish the story for yourself.' 'No, please
go on!' Alice said very humbly. 'I wo'n't interrupt you again. I
dare say there may be one.'
'One,
indeed!' said the Dormouse indignantly. However, he consented to
go on. 'And so these three little sisters - they were learning
to draw, you know —' 'What did they draw?' said Alice, quite
forgetting her promise. 'Treacle', said the Dormouse, without
considering at all, this time.
'I wan't a clean
cup', interrupted the Hatter: 'let's all move one place on.' He
moved as he spoke, and the Dormouse followed him: the March Hare
moved into the Dormouse's place, and Alice rather unwillingly
took the place of the March Hare. The Hatter was the only one
who got any advantage from the change; and Alice was a good deal
worse off than before, as the March Hare had just upsed the
milk-jug [cfr the Milky Way] into his plate ...
The evening Sun reached the Heart of the great Serpent

The Persian structure began at the Mouth of the
Well (Miyan) and it had 2 gaps in its flow of
time stations, the first one after Alhena in Gemini and
stretching to Syrma in Virgo, from day
184 (July 3) to October 22 (295), and the 2nd gap was from Antares (329) to
Bunda in Aquarius (407).

Possibly Elsie, Lacie (as in Lazy), and
Tillie could have lived in a 'treacle well' stretching for
472 / 4 = 118 (= 2 * 59) nights from the red Antares to
Andromeda (at the Mouth of the Pegasus Well). 82 +
365 - 329 = 118.
Or rather for dark 40 nights from Bunda
(Foundation) to Andromeda. 82 - 42 = 40 =
118 - 78.
...
A man had a
daughter who possessed a wonderful bow and arrow, with which
she was able to bring down everything she wanted. But she
was lazy and was constantly sleeping. At this her father was
angry and said: 'Do not be always sleeping, but take thy bow
and shoot at the navel of the ocean, so that we may get fire.'
The navel of the
ocean was a vast whirlpool in which sticks for making fire
by friction were drifting about. At that time men were still
without fire. Now the maiden seized her bow, shot into the
navel of the ocean, and the material for fire-rubbing sprang
ashore.
Then the old man
was glad. He kindled a large fire, and as he wanted to keep
it to himself, he built a house with a door which snapped up
and down like jaws and killed everybody that wanted to get
in. But the people knew that he was in possession of fire,
and the stag determined to steal it for them. He took
resinous wood, split it and stuck the splinters in his hair.
Then he lashed two boats together, covered them with planks,
danced and sang on them, and so he came to the old man's
house. He sang: 'O, I go and will fetch the fire.' The old
man's daughter heard him singing, and said to her father:
'O, let the stranger come into the house; he sings and
dances so beautifully.'
The stag landed
and drew near the door, singing and dancing, and at the same
time sprang to the door and made as if he wanted to enter
the house. Then the door snapped to, without however
touching him. But while it was again opening, he sprang
quickly into the house. Here he seated himself at the fire,
as if he wanted to dry himself, and continued singing. At
the same time he let his head bend forward over the fire, so
that he became quite sooty, and at last the splinters in his
hair took fire. Then he sprang out, ran off and brought the
fire to the people ...

According to
Hevelius
there could
have been a 'cargo'
in the
'winnowing
basket' of
Corona
Australis
in form of the
right front
leg of
the Sagittarius
Horse.
But the
place where
the March
Hare had
upset his 'milk-jug'
must have
been
at Nash (γ
Sagittarii),
i.e. at his
'arrow head'.
... As has
already been
mentioned,
the
Delphians
worshipped
Dionysus
once a year
as the
new-born
child,
Liknites,
'the Child
in the
Harvest
Basket',
which was a
shovel-shaped
basket of
rush and
osier used
as a harvest
basket, a
cradle, a
manger, and
a
winnowing-fan
for tossing
the grain up
into the air
against the
wind, to
separate it
from the
chaff
...
The neck of the Chinese Serpent had stars which shone in the ecliptic 'platter' but the other head, that of the Turtle, was higher up.
And there was a gap measuring 24 days from the South Dipper to Niu, a name which could have inspired the Polynesians:
Nikau Mgv.: The coco palm. Ta.: niau, coconut leaf. Ha.: niau, stem of the coconut leaf. Ma.: nikau, an areca palm. Churchill.
Mgv.: niu, the coconut palm when young, ripening into nikau. ... the ni of New Caledonia leads us to infer that niu was anciently a composite in which ni carried at least some sort of generic sense, it being understood that this refers to those characteristics which might strike the islanders as indicating a genus. In composition with kau tree we should then see nikau, the ni-tree, serving in Mangareva for the coconut palm, in New Zealand for the characteristic palm (Areca sapida) of that land, in Tahiti as niau for coconut leaf, and as niau in Hawaii for the leaf stalk of the coconut. The ni-form is found in Micronesia, and in the Marshall Islands ni is the coconut. Churchill 2. |
