Earlier, at tao, we found connections between tao and rau hei, and we should start our investigation from there. Maybe 'sacrifices' (rau hei) result in 'hot vitality' (tao). The first pair of tao glyphs arrives a quarter after winter solstice:
87 = 64 + 23 = 3 * 29 and 90 = 64 + 26 = 3 * 30. At Ga1-24 'atariki' ('the shadow king') marks the end of the dark time. The numbers for the tao glyphs (1-22 and 1-25) can probably be used to identify the rau hei sacrifices which 'quickened' - as I guess - the return of spring sun:
The distance in glyphs (and days) from Ga1-22 to Gb1-22 (respectively from Ga1-25 to Gb1-25) is 229 (equal to the number of glyphs on side a). But we should rather count the distance from rau hei to tao, following the expected train of events. 472 - 229 = 243 (= 3 * 3 * 3 * 3 * 3). Maybe 243 can be regarded as a 'period of pregnancy' (which ordinarily takes somewhat less than 9 months). 243 / 9 = 27. Tao glyphs possibly indicate (and depict) the 'opening', the door through which new life (light) emerges. The 'vital spirit' from rau hei must first go to the 'underworld' (enter into mother earth) by way of the horizon in the west before being reborn in the east again. |
