Santiago Staff (I, RR 10)

This is a unique object, the only remaining staff (kouhau) with glyphs. Earlier it seems (Fischer) that the carved staffs were as common as the carved tablets, but this object is the sole survivor.

It is the longest inscription known, being divided into 14 rows. The type of wood is unknown. I have cut the picture in Barthel's book in half, showing the left part first and the right part below:

Perhaps the text should be read starting with row no. 12 rather than with row no. 1. (Fischer)
