In the beginning it was clear that sun (and moon and the other heavenly 'persons') rose from some kind of hole in the far east, and that they took half a day to pass across the sky to go down through some other hole far in the west (they were swallowed there).

This was the spatial pattern. Moon went withershins and had to be of a different kind, though. Her business was foremost time, not space. It was like a cross, the horizontal bar the path of the sun and the vertical bar the tree of life. Moon shows what life means, birth, growth, reaching the top, declining and death. Then a new birth not long after death.

Around the vertical tree of time (time is change, a sign of life, the opposite of the inert stone for example) the sun and the stars went in a circular movement. It was the mill.

But if it was a mill, then there must be two holes to keep the tree in place. Both sun and moon had twin holes.

When the mill sank into the sea, it was because the mill is in time. It is the vertical tree around which sun and all the other heavenly bodies rotate. But spatially seen, the two holes of the tree could not be those holes through which sun etc rose and went down. The two holes of the mill had instead to be oriented in south and north.

When we find Te Pei immediately before Te Pou it is obvious they refer to one of the holes of time and to the tree. They cannot be on side a of G, because its subject is land and space and sun, not sea and time and moon.

The mill of the sea (the waves) slowly grinds the hardest rocks into sand. Into dust they go.

The norm for the glyph type pu (with holes) could be the spatial (sun-oriented) holes in east and west, but hardly the holes for the mill. Another variant has no holes and possibly it is the tree of the mill:

pu

Looking in K for pu glyphs, we do not find many:

Ka1-1 Ka1-2 Kb3-12

Obviously Ka1-1--2 are located at the right time, at the very beginning of the story. The sign at right in Ka1-1 suggest a toppling similar to that in Te Pei.

Gb1-6 Gb1-7

Kb3-12 is a blend of non-hole pu and rau hei:

Ga6-21 Ga6-22 (163) Ga6-23
Kb3-11 Kb3-12 (149) Kb3-13

The measure of the sun is full. 3 * 12 = 36, and 6 * 22 = 132. 360 - 132 = 12 * 19. Let us look at 163 in K and 149 in G:

Ga5-27 (149) Ga5-28 Ga5-29
Kb4-10 (163) Kb4-11 Kb4-12

The glyphs certainly look related.

And then let us compare the glyphs with number 132 in G and K:

Ga5-10 (132) Ga5-11 Ga5-12
Kb2-13 (132) Kb4-14 Kb4-15
