With summer solstice at the beginning of the 'back side' in G and winter solstice some 180 days later, the front side will have no standing still sun:
Counted by the moon there is half a year from Rogo in Gb1-3 to Rogo in Gb6-26:
471 - 177 = 294 = 10 * 29.5 - 1. Sun will 'live' for 10 months minus 1 day. Maui has prolonged the life of the sun to be more than half of the total cycle. Rogo in Gb3-15 must not be forgotten:
The location is number 76 counted from Gb1-1:
With 360 = 20 * 18, we can subtract 4 * 18 and then 16 * 18 remains. Maybe 288 (= 36 * 8) is a truer map of how long sun lives. The 8-land, the land of the gods, cannot stretch out sun's life longer than to 8 months. Maui stretched out the life of sun from 6 to 8 months, and this could explain why Te Pei (Gagana) has such an importance.
From this follows that those 64 days from winter solstice to the beginning of the front side of the text in G is nothing the gods will take part in. For them life of sun begins with Gb8-30 (where 8 * 30 = 240 as in Ga8-24). Ga1-26 (27) looks as if it should be connected with Gb1-6 (236):
But that may not be the case. Instead we perhaps should let Ga1-26 connect to Ga8-24:
There are 200 days of spring sun beyond those 91 nights from winter solstice. Another 4 nights are needed to reach 295:
471 - 177 = 294 = 10 * 29.5 - 1. Sun will 'live' for 10 months minus 1 day. 204 = 12 * 17 (to be compared with 17 * 7 in 177). 200 is half 400 = 8 * 50. |
