The first page for the gagana glyph type in the dictionary
I discover that neither H, P, nor Q has this type of glyph. Although not very common it should have been there. It might be a sign, for instance of a change of belief resulting from the effects of the missionaries. Or it might indicate that H, P, and Q were created by not yet fully initiated writers. Or it might be due to something else. C has no gagana either. Next page:
The square of twice 6 (twice sun) indicates a structure with waxing and waning, like the phases of the moon. Also, 144 can be read as 14 and 4, major characteristics of the moon. Four fortnights equals 56, which summarizes to 11 - a new one must be sired before the old one disappears completely. In the 28th (half 56) henua period of G glyph number 6-24 has Rogo at left and at right a staff leaning forwards:
This staff could have a sign of water at the top end (the latest part). The distance from rau hei to next Rogo has been stated as 243 days:
There is no reason to change this statement, but we notice that it becomes 244 if we count inclusively. 24 * 4 = 12 * 8 = 96. 6 * 24 = 12 * 12, and 6 * 26 = 12 * 13. 13 is 'one more' than 12. Therefore, 12 must carry the meaning of final, 'temporary death' (similar to 6 * 25 = 100, a quartet of 5 squared). While 13 must carry the meaning of 'rebirth'. The 13th kuhane station is Roto Iri Are. 165 (at Ga6-24) is equal to 5 * (20 + 13). 64 + 165 = 229, which can be read either as 2 * 29 = 58 or as 22 * 9 = 198. Neither of these two alternatives seem to be very meaningful. Instead, 229 might refer to the end of side a:
The importance of glyph number 229 is enhanced by the little dot at right, and 64 (and 63) enters the stage again:
8 * 25 = 200 = 20 * 10. The henua sign is now 'watery' at both ends, and the triplet of threads across are sloping upwards - water is increasing. 1 week remains to day 300. The symmetry with 64 days from Rogo at winter solstice to the beginning of the front side of the text and 64 days from Rogo at left in Ga6-24 to midsummer is striking. We can compare with Q. Qa6-24--26 (which corresponds to the first half of henua period number 28 in G) has what presumably is a vero Rogo in the center:
229 + 64 will be 293 also in Q. Also in Q there will then be 70 days from day 293 to the day of Rogo reborn. But there is an important difference:
The imagined clue 229 at Ga6-24 cannot work in Q. In Q the text needs twice as many glyphs as in G for the same time interval. Yet, it is noteworthy to find glyph number 229 also at Qa6-24. Another sign must be used in Q, and possibly it is 230 reflected as 320 in Qa8-25. Moving another 64 days ahead from Qa8-25 (which can be compared with moving another 64 days ahead from Ga6-24) will result in the numinous 288, and then 75 days remain to day 363. The same basic structure seems to have influenced both the creator of G and the creator of Q. Qa8-25 has a key role, and its day number, 224, is the same as for manu rere in Ga8-20 (where 8 * 20 = 160 or half 320). Day 288 can be alluded to in Qa8-36 (where 8 * 36 = 288):
Day 230 ends the inserted 7 glyphs which are unique for Q (in comparison with H and P). |
