The distance from kara etahi to manu rere is 988 (= 19 * 52 glyphs), and 9 * 88 is equal to 8 * 99.

The glyphs around manu rere are presented in the table below. It should be observed that the position 7 glyphs earlier is given to a manu rere with an open right wing (the last such of 6 in the text). Moreover, 6 * 30 = 180 could refer to a point in time half a year later than that of hanau in Aa2-26:

On side a the events described in line a2 presumably refer to the month before spring sun returns. A hanau glyph for Rogo is not strange. On side b the bird is close to the end of the 3rd quarter - precisely 84 glyphs (or 42 days, or 6 weeks) before manu rere in Ab7-29:

Naturally we will think these two birds in some way are connected with the event of Sun 'disappearing' in autumn:

So there may be some truth after all in my guess that kara etahi is a variant of vae kore (possibly 'the child still not capable of moving his legs'). The opposite sign is manu rere, the very quickly moving 'bird'. He has left his troublesome body behind and is moving upwards like a flame of fire.
