Next page (still hunting for the
vaero glyphs in line a2):
According to my
reconstruction there is a cardinal point at Aa1-64 because the glyph
says so and because there is an agreement between two different ways
to count days:
|
According to the 2-glyphs-per-day
calendar Rei will be at the 26th day on side a:

358 does not at first appear to be
interesting, but quickly it is discovered to be equal to 35 * 8
= 280.
If according to a calendar
with 280 days Aa1-52 is the end, then we can presumably identify
the beginning as 2 * 280 = 560 glyphs earlier. 560 - 52 (line
a1) = 508. The glyph will be Ab2-74:

There is a little one (tapa mea
with 4 feathers in front) below the hakaturou sign in the
preceding Ab2-73. And the preceding day ends with manu rere.
'Reexamine the texts':
I will base the comparison on the H text, because it seems to be 'closer in
spirit' to A than the other two texts.
To begin with the
day numbers, I have arrived at the conclusion that they here are
defined as glyph number (counted from Ha1-1) divided by 3 and followed
by the additions of both 64 and 63. The phenomenon of adding 63
was found also in the parallel Q text:
... 173 (the day number
according to the rule 218 / 2 + 64) will become 236 if we add 63 ...
In Q day number
236 was discovered at Qa6-12 (a.m. of day 236), and this glyph has
*Ha6-49 and vaha mea puo in Aa1-68 as
parallels. The puo idea, cfr Aa1-68, - 'covered up' - is in
*Ha6-49 and in Qa6-12 expressed in another way so that only the
'flames', 'feathers', are visible while the 'body' is hidden by the
'person' in front, who is bathing in light.
P.m. of day 236
(in Q) is parallel with Ha6-50 (where 6 *
50 = 300):
|
The method of
counting day numbers should be possible to secure also by looking at the
following glyphs. Beyond 5 (rima, fire) glyph
positions which are strategically located at the bottom of
the burnt area on the tablet, there are 8 glyphs where we
can see only the bottom parts:
|
If a first period of 13 * 20 = 260
days is ending with *Ha6-24, where 6 * 24 = 144, then it should
begin with 4 * 29 dark nights. 144 + 116 = 260.
Expressed in glyphs: 144 * 3 = 432 (which happens to be equal to
(648 + 648) / 3) glyphs. 299 of them are needed to count to
*Ha6-24 from Ha1-1. 432 - 299 = 133 must be at the end of side
b, from Hb10-39 onwards:

Evidently this is close to an
important event, because the parallel P ends with *Pb11-60 where
the 12th glyph from Rei in Hb10-39 is.
If we count the day number at Hb10-39 it will be 516 / 3 = 172,
and 172 + 64 = 236 and 236 + 63 = 299. Possibly we should think
16 * 29.5 = 472 = 300 + 172, because 472 = 2 * 236 and 299 gives
29 * 9 = 261 or 'one more' than 260.
Rona in Hb10-47 could illustrate the 'downfall'. 104 * 7
= 728 and 728 / 2 = 364.
This seems
to be an important discovery and I surely must take the
opportunity to document it as an extra page:
... The
first '26' should end with
*Ha6-24, because 6 * 24 = 12 * 12 ...
If a first
period of 13 * 20 = 260 days is ending with *Ha6-24 (where 6
* 24 = 144), then it ought to begin with 4 * 29 = 116 dark
nights. 144 + 116 = 260.
Expressed in
glyphs: 144 * 3 = 432 (which happens to be equal to (648 +
648) / 3 glyphs. In order to reach 648 also as the number of
glyphs on side a I have counted the 'imaginary' glyphs in
the burned area but not the 18 possible glyphs in the empty
space at the end of line Ha12.
299 of these 432
glyphs are needed to count to *Ha6-24 from Ha1-1. 432 - 299
= 133 must therefore be at the end of side b, which is from
Hb10-39 onwards:
