1. There are two glyphs in Small Washington which have a certain resemblance to these four parallel glyphs:

2. Remarkably Metoro used the word maro at Aa1-11. Did he know what subject matter the text is about?

Very probable, I think, as this sequence of glyphs comes at the beginning and also because we have parallel texts in H/P/Q. Such parallel texts were presumably important and in general use on the rongorongo tablets (see e.g. in Rb4-203--204 above).

So even if Metoro didn't know the subject matter he would guess (rightly I presume) that the two lines across (and even sticking out somewhat) the 'throat' of toki te ragi meant maro.
