Tahua
(A, RR 1) This famous tablet is in excellent condition and is carved on an oar from an American or European ship. The wood is European ash (Fraxinus excelsior). It is one of the four tablets which Bishop Jaussen on Tahiti showed Metoro Tau'a Ure and let him read for him. The Bishop used the name 'La Rame' (French for 'the Oar') for the tablet. Pictures (Barthel):
On both sides there are 8 rows of glyphs. The name Tahua is explained by a note from Jaussen that the text had been carved by Tahua 'a Hotuiti. (Fischer)
