Metoro's words make me think - humu = thighs and tattoos on them. But that's just what the legs in Pachamama shows: Thighs full with incised sun-signs. I don't think that is a concidence. And then heu = offspring of parents from two different tribes. I think of a pattern of light and dark, Matatiki i nika, Matariki i raro, being similar to two tribes. We are at the point in the calendar where light changes to dark, as in Wednesday. Or rather: Both are current. The new period has already made itself known (been 'seated'), and the last period will stay with us for a while. The islands in the Pacific usually are divided vertically: the eastern part is 'black' and the western part 'white'. That fact made me wonder. Because for me it is more natural to think of the eastern side as white and the western as black. After all the sun rises in the east. But then Tiki arrives immediately before Tane, Saturday immediately before Sunday, black before white. And Po arrives before Ao. And the sun (Tane) belongs to the upper hole in GD24, Tiki to the lower, e.g. in Gb7-8:
This is like a plant growing or the reading of rongorongo tablets: It all starts from the bottom going upwards. Tiki arrives before Tane. Death must be before life can flourish, otherwise it would soon be too overcrowded on our little island. |
