Ideas:

1. At first my impression of this creature was that it shows an ant-lion. But there seems to be a kind of root system at the bottom. Consequently it is rather a kind of growth.

2. This type of glyph is important because it guided me - right or wrong - in identifying the cardinal points (equinoxes and solstices).

Perhaps, therefore, it is a picture of a heart, the 'root system' showing cut off arteries. If so, we could consider this glyph to be the Heart of Sky, around which the cartwheel of the firmament rotates. Or even better: the sandal of Tohil.
