"It should be stated right now that 'fire' is actually a great circle reaching from the North Pole of the celestial sphere to its South Pole..." (Hamlet's Mill) So the fire which is started by drilling in the black of night is unusual in not being located at the point of the drill but instead spread out along the circumference of a circle. I guess this also - like most mythical happenings in the sky it seems - is originating from the moon. In the night which is called Ohiro by the Polynesians suddenly the border of the moon is illuminated. Not just a point but half the circle.
