This is a very common type of glyph in the texts of rongorongo. I have therefore decided to let it have a 'door' of its own in my glyph catalogue. Although it seems to be a compound with at left our acquaintance tau avanga and at right an 'ossified arm'.

That it probably is an arm can be seen by comparisons between parallel texts and through the linear developments of the texts, e.g.:

Ha5-10 Ha5-11 Ha5-12 Ha5-13 Ha5-14 Ha5-15 Ha5-16
Pa4-52 Pa4-53 Pa4-54 Pa4-55 Pa4-56 Pa4-57 Pa4-58

Metoro usually said (tuu) toga at this type of glyph. The word tonga means 'Post, column, prop. Also winter, and the south as a direction.' (Van Tilburg)

I believe that winter is similar to the time of death, old white bones not being far away. The Tonga Islands are located southwards as seen from the Gilbert Islands, father south even than Samoa.
