Here the Tree (te rakau) was growing (tupu)
in the sweet water (te vai).
Probably we can see
this Tree in the background behind the right ear of the
March Hare:
And
the Teapot in the center of the table of the Mad Hatter
(Mercury, Ohiro) ought similarly
to refer to the Teapot asterism in Sagittarius:
... I wan't a clean cup, interrupted
the Hatter: let's all move one place on. He moved as he
spoke, and the Dormouse followed him: the March Hare
moved into the Dormouse's place, and Alice rather
unwillingly took the place of the March Hare. The Hatter
was the only one who got any advantage from the change;
and Alice was a good deal worse off than before, as the
March Hare had just upset the milk-jug into his plate
...
The Chinese overview below has the same asterism at the
neck of their Green Serpent, at the opposite side of the
sky compared to Gemini (at the beak of the Red Bird):
Unquestionably a snake (serpent) was symbolizing running
(living) water - or other liquid such as milk, mercury
etc - all over the world in ancient times. Given a
source of sweet water at the Teapot we can guess why
another name for this part of the sky was the South
Dipper:
