And then there is the question of the structure 1a, 1b, 1c etc in this (still) presumed calendar based on Matariki. I have been influenced by the stone ball showing the globe of the earth as a Janus-head of Makemake. This ball evidently disregards what happens north of the equator. It only shows this side of the earth and the other side of the earth as being exactly alike (though complementary as regards light and darkness). My earlier idea about this Matariki calendar showing either: 1) also what happens on the other side of the earth = north of the equator or 2) that it is showing also what will happen on this side of the earth = south of the equator 6 months later - I do no longer believe in that. Some other explanation must be found. And then the triple thread ropes of South America offers such a possibility: If this Matariki calendar is woven with three strands, one white, one black, and one white+black, then this calendar is understandable. It might be due to influences from South America or it might be due to a model with three strands being a natural one to create and use. Or both causes might lie behind this triple structure. If this is so (a 'triple thread rope' explanation is correct), then my guess is that b = white, c = black, and a = white+black. There are sun glyphs in b (except in 2b) and in c, not in a (except in 1a). There are Matariki glyphs in b, not in c nor in a. Though shouldn't the Matariki glyphs be in the dark period of the day? Or can they be seen during the very first period of the 'day'? |
