I have chosen to call the signs
which were used in the writing on the Easter Island wooden boards for 'miroglyphs'.
The miroglyphs might be seen as a kind of 'hieroglyphs' (= holy
writings).
But as the Polynesian word 'miro' means (among other things) 'wood'
and as the Easter Islanders used pieces of wood to write on I prefer
to use the name miroglyphs.
Usually, though, I just write 'glyphs'. |
