Let's now try to complete our
overview of line Ca1. First a repetition of
its beginning in order to compare with the
end of side b:

If we should add 348 (number of glyphs on
side b) to the first 6 glyphs on side
a, then the sum becomes 354 (= 12 *
29½). Then we should reduce
the number of glyphs on side a with 6:
side b |
348 |
|
|
side a |
6 |
386 |
392 |
sum |
354 |
|
|
But 386 ought then
to be the sum of 20 and 366, i.e.
there could be 20 special days from Ca1-7 to
April 17:
March 28 (87) |
17 |
April 15 (471) |

'Sea' |
'Land' |
We can guess the
total number of glyphs on the tablet
was designed to be 354 + 366 + 20 =
740 (= 36 * 20 + 20).
But then the creator
of the text may have meant the Sea
should be 20 days only - corresponding
to about 71 * 20 = ca 1420 dark
years counted from 76 B.C.
However, the pair
Ankaa and κ Phoenicis did not arrive
until around 1487 A.D. according to
my presentation above. The 'Sea'
should therefore include also Ca1-6
and stretch for about 71 * 21 = ca
1491 (= 7 * 213) dark years counted from 76 B.C.
But then there
appears
to be 1 night missing, because 348 +
5 = 353 instead of 354:
side b |
348 |
|
|
side a |
5 |
387 |
392 |
sum |
353 |
|
|
However, this
was the case also in the G text
(where there are 471 instead of
the expected 472 glyphs).
740 + 1 = 741 =
3 * 247= 19 * 39.
The glyph type puo
('covered up') possibly hides 2
nights.
|
|
Ca1-5 |
Gb8-30 |
If this should be
correct, then the beginning of
side a in the C text could
correspond to March 21 instead
of March 22. But another
explanation could be to hide
away 1 night out of those 366.
The last night should be broken
off after
ĵ.
