The 'tree' (te rakau) is first mentioned at Ca4-1, but then not until after midsummer:
Orion is apparently not identical with 'the tree', instead the constellation seems to be positioned between λ of the Eridani river and the Milky Way, like a 'tunnel' incorporating a flow. The pattern of 4 days for the midline seems to be repeated with the rakau glyphs:
Excepting the odd Ca4-18 we can see a gradual increase in size - tupu te rakau. But at Ca4-13, the first stadium, the growth cannot yet be seen, because at that time there is no comparison. Therefore Metoro may have avoided the expression tupu te rakau. A corresponding growth in size is also seen in the great pyramids, with that of Menkaure significantly smaller than the other two, and with that of Khufu greater than that of Khafre. The odd figure in Ca4-18 could correspond to the tomb of queen Khentkawes, which has a longitude between those of the Menkaure and Khaftre pyramids. Kua tuu tona mea possibly means his (tona) 'thing' (mea) is standing erect (tuu):
In rongorongo times June 30 had the brightest star in the sky rising heliacally. Sirius rose 101 days after March 20. 80 + 101 = 181 (equal to the distance from Aldebaran to Antares). |
