2. At the 'horn' (vero) of spring the ruling king was in danger of being killed, such was the ancient belief:

To continue with my earlier notes:

The brutes of spring caused the downfall of both Captain Cook and Julius Caesar. We are close to the key myth of mankind, that which explains the regeneration of sun and of growth. Once at least some people kept the tradition living. I became interested in what really happened at March 15 and reopened Henrikson to find out.

Caesar was forewarned of the threat by the prophet Spurinna, who told him that a great threat was coming at Idus Martiae or just before. The day arrived and Caesar was still living, walking to his meeting with the Senate when he happened to encounter Spurinna and told him jokingly that he was still alive. Spurinna calmely answered that the day had yet not ended.

The Romans divided their months in two parts and the dividing point was Idus, which in some way was connected with full moon. March 15 was the midpoint of March, which is close to spring equinox.

The old agricultural year defined the beginning of the year to the time when sun returned, and it was connected with Mars.

I guess I now can understand why the 4th manu rere in the calendar of the week is missing. At manu rere in the glyph dictionary I wrote:

... The preliminary remarks and imaginations lead to the conclusion that manu rere means 'royal god'. Support for this is given in Sunday, Thursday and Saturday according to H:

Hb9-17 Hb9-18 Hb9-19 Hb9-20 Hb9-21
Hb9-39 Hb9-40 Hb9-41 Hb9-42 Hb9-43
Hb9-44 Hb9-45 Hb9-46 Hb9-47
Hb9-51 Hb9-52 Hb9-53 Hb9-54
Hb9-55 Hb9-56 Hb9-57 Hb9-58

Presumably - because of the astronomical perspective in the calendar - the three GD11 'kings' refer to the cosmic order rather than to the rule of ordinary earthly chiefs.

We should therefore think of god kings, which is in harmony with the positions of Sun, Jupiter and Saturn as rulers in the sky ...

The 'knuckle' of Mars is absent:

Sun knuckle January
Moon valley February
Mars knuckle March -
Mercury valley April
Jupiter knuckle May
Venus valley June
Saturn knuckle July

In my table above I had chosen the term 'knuckle' because of a previous discussion regarding finger counting:

...  As a child I had learnt the peculiar pattern of the number of days in each month by counting on the knuckles of my left hand, pointing with the index finger of my right hand. You start with January having 31 days (represented by the knuckle corresponging to the index finger of my left hand. Then followes in the 'bay' between the knuckles of my index and long fingers February - an exceptionally 'low' dip, then March once again was 'high' on the knuckle corresponding to my left hand long finger, implying 31 days. April was 'down' (30 days) before May again was on a knuckle (31).

It was very easy to remember. When June arrived 'low' it was 30 days, and July was given 31 by being located on the knuckle of my little finger. Then I had to shift and continue on my right hand, pointing with my left index finger. August (knuckle of right hand index finger) was therefore also 31 days (not 30 which would follow from a more regular pattern ).

It nicely explained why both July and August had 31 days, in spite of following after each other. It also - now - illustrates why the right hand corresponds to sun and why a new cycle must begin after 7 months. A gap then comes, shifting from one hand to next. The gap in a way corresponds to a 'bay', because then a new knuckle comes ...

I wish to add that probably the counting once continued on the right hand to its end, which means there were 14 months. Thus there were 8 'knuckles' (mountains, high positions where birds fly) and 6 'bays' (low positions where fishes swim).

In March one of the 'birds' (the planet Mars) brings 'fire' from the sky down to earth and therefore he cannot remain in the sky, thus no manu rere in Tuesday.
