4. In the picture of the Babylonian zodiac we can see where the path of the souls (the Milky Way) is crossing the ecliptic: One junction comes after the Bull of Heaven (Taurus). Therefore Ana-muri should belong inside the 7 constellations of spring. And Scorpio is clearly rising before the arrival of spring.
Compared with the Dendera zodiac midsummer is located earlier in the precessional cycle, if we judge from e.g. the Arrow constellation.
In the Dendera picture the bluemarked figures in general correspond to such constellations which in the Babylonian zodiac are in the Milky Way where it goes below the ecliptic. Arrow is the first such sign and Mad Dog is the last, they belong in the Underworld. The later Dendera zodiac also has its 'Mad Dog' as the last station in the Underworld, but precession has moved its 'Arrow' away from spring equinox and another blue constellation is the first - though it is below the Milky Way. Both Ana-mua (in Scorpio) and Ana-muri (in Taurus) belong in the path of Sun, the ecliptic. North of the equator Scorpio is the last constellation of the Old Sun, the station where the path in the Underworld for a while follows the eliptic. A hole should be there in order to let Sun reappear again, and the kneeling god pairs ('twins') presumably indicate where such Sun holes are located: They cannot be standing because it would indicate a sky raised high. They must instead be kneeling to show how the hole is connecting to the world below. We remember how in Thursday (the last station of Sun) there are 'twins' (ariga erua) looking at each other:
There must be holes in the east and in the west through which Sun emerges in the morning and descends in the evening, and there must be holes in the north and the south in order for Sun to be reborn at winter solstice and 'swallowed' at summer solstice. |
