As I understand it the reason must be that this is a zodiac (path for) Moon. She does not sail away far up in the sky like Sun in summer, neither does she dive down to the fishes in the Underworld in winter. She keeps to the Middle World.

In the Egyptian picture we can probably identify the right raised up knee of Schu as the path of Sun in summer:

It is similar to the sign at bottom front of tagata in Ga1-5:

Gb1-5 Gb1-6 Gb1-7

The left foot of Schu disappears behind the feet of Nut. And the right fingers of Nut disappears into the ground. Presumably it means the cycle is beginning at the left hand of Schu. The path then goes through the body of Schu and out through his left foot into the feet of Nut, which necessitates a rather contorted body posture.

Then the body of Nut forms the path above which Sun is sailing, up to midwinter and down to spring equinox where Sun is being caught in a net - which at that time has been finished, the weaving began with matua.

A gap in time, when Sun is not visible, comes from the prow of his ship to the left hand of Schu. But the path continues with the right forearm of Nut, and it ends in the ground.
