In the C text the extraordinary glyph Cb1-6
arrived in the night after κ Virginis, and in the following
day the Sun was at Mira:

The corresponding place in the G text, i.e. when
Arcturus (at the anus of Bootes) was close to the Full Moon and time was going withershins
- cfr the orientation of Ursa Major,
of Canes Venatici, of Bootes, and also the order of the 3 Aselli
(ass colts) with Primus coming as the last one and Tertius as the first
-
has a glyph which in a way resembles Cb1-6 but where the meaning
could be the opposite, viz. of joining limbs together rather
than tearing them apart.
|
... Sorrowing, then, the two women placed
Osiris's coffer on a boat, and when the goddess Isis was alone
with it at sea, she opened the chest and, laying her face on the
face of her brother, kissed him and wept. The myth goes on to
tell of the blessed boat's arrival in the marshes of the Delta,
and of how Set, one night hunting the boar by the light of the
full moon, discovered the sarcophagus and tore the body into
fourteen pieces, which he scattered abroad; so that, once again,
the goddess had a difficult task before her. She was assisted,
this time, however, by her little son Horus, who had the head of
a hawk, by the son of her sister Nephtys, little Anubis, who had
the head of a jackal, and by Nephtys herself, the sister-bride
of their wicked brother Set. Anubis, the elder of the two boys,
had been conceived one very dark night, we are told, when Osiris
mistook Nephtys for Isis; so that by some it is argued that the
malice of Set must have been inspired not by the public virtue
and good name of the noble culture hero, but by this domestic
inadventure. The younger, but true son, Horus, on the other
hand, had been more fortunately conceived - according to some,
when Isis lay upon her dead brother in the boat, or, according
to others, as she fluttered about the palace pillar in the form
of a bird. The four bereaved and searching divinities, the two
mothers and their two sons, were joined by a fifth, the moon-god
Thoth (who appears sometimes in the form of an ibis-headed
scribe, at other times in the form of a baboon), and together
they found all of Osiris save his genital member, which had been
swallowed by a fish. They tightly swathed the broken body in
linen bandages, and when they performed over it the rites that
thereafter were to be continued in Egypt in the ceremonial
burial of kings, Isis fanned the corpse with her wings and
Osiris revived, to become the ruler of the dead. He now sits
majestically in the underworld, in the Hall of the Two Truths,
assisted by forty-two assessors, one from each of the principal
districts of Egypt; and there he judges the souls of the dead.
These confess before him, and when their hearts have been
weighed in a balance against a feather, receive, according to
their lives, the reward of virtue and the punishment of sin ...
The genital member of Osiris had been swallowed
by a fish and at Gb7-26 (perhaps alluding to 7 * 26 = 182) a head had
been swallowed by a fish. On Easter Island the head of a king
corresponded to his genital member:
... The skulls of the
chiefs are for the chicken, so that thousands may be born' (te
puoko ariki mo te moa, mo topa o te piere) ... As long as
the source of mana is kept in the house, the hens are
impregnated (he rei te moa i te uha), they lay eggs (he
ne'ine'i te uha i te mamari), and the chicks are hatched (he
topa te maanga) ...
The front element in the
glyph probably depicts a 'calabash' (offspring):
... Ipu is the
Tahitian word corresponding to hipu. Mahigo means
'children'. I can translate the words of Bishop Jaussen into:
'The children (Mahigo) and the small calabashes are here
mentioned together. In their prayers, when asking Makemake
for small calabashes, it was especially children who were
meant ...'

In Ga6-12 there is a haka-ua (making
rain) type of glyph, and such glyphs resemble the child (tamaiti)
type of glyph. Rain makes Mother Earth fruitful.
Counting from the complex Gb7-22 (maybe to be read as the
mirror reverse of 22 / 7 = π
marking the end point at half a cycle), from April 14 (104) to October
23 (296) the distance should be 192 days (= 384 / 2 = 6 * 32
etc). The
Wonderful Star Mira (ο at the
neck of the Sea Beast) was close to the Full Moon in April
23.
...
Although an old
constellation, Cetus is by no means of special interest,
except as possessing the south pole of the Milky Way and the
Wonderful Star, the
variable Mira; and from the fact that it is a condensation
point of nebulae directly across the sphere from Virgo, also
noted in this respect ...

Ga6-17 (157) |
If the head swallowed by a fish (in Gb7-26)
was corresponding to the genital member of Osiris - also
swallowed by a 'fish' - then this old story should be close to its
end. 10 glyphs later there is a reversed
magnificient manu rere (Gb8-5). By extrapolating from
the Gregorian calendar backwards to the time of the Bull we
will find the date to be FEBRUARY 23 which date in Roman
times was known as Terminalia.
... The leap day was introduced as part of
the Julian reform. The day following the Terminalia
(February 23) was doubled, forming the 'bis sextum -
literally 'double sixth', since February 24 was 'the sixth
day before the Kalends of March' using Roman inclusive
counting (March 1 was the 'first day'). Although exceptions
exist, the first day of the bis sextum (February 24)
was usually regarded as the intercalated or 'bissextile' day
since the third century. February 29 came to be regarded as
the leap day when the Roman system of numbering days was
replaced by sequential numbering in the late Middle Ages ...
And if the creator of the G text had been aware of
this
bis sextum, then we could expect some sign of
'double' beyond the reversed manu rere and this is
indeed the case:

"... The Arabs knew Polaris as Al Kiblah,
'because it is the star least distant from the pole',
although then 5° away, and
helped them, in any strange location distant from an
established point of worship, to know the points of the
compass and thus the direction to Mecca and its Kabah¹,
towards which every good Muslim must turn his head in
prayer.
¹ This ancient Square
House, probably an early Sabaean temple, was built,
tradition says, first in heaven; then for Adam on earth as a
tabernacle of radiant clouds let down by the angels directly
under its celestial site. This, disappearing at his death,
was replaced by one of stone and clay by the patriarch
Seth, that in its turn was swept away by the Deluge.
Lastly it was erected
by Abraham and Ishmael to contain the Black Stone, Al
Hajar al Aswad, a ruby, or jacinth, brought from heaven
by Gabriel and now blackened by the pilgrims' tears, or
because so often kissed by sinners; but it is generally
regarded by unbelievers as a meteorite. The Century
Cyclopedia, however, describes it as an irregular oval
about seven inches in diameter, composed of about a dozen
smaller stones of various shapes and sizes. The Stone is set
into the northeast corner of the wall, at a convenient
height for kissing.
They also claled it Al Jadī,
the Young He Goat, which subsequently degenerated to
Juddah, as Niebuhr heard it a century ago, and known
in Desert story as Giedi, the slayer of the dead man
on the Bier of Ursa Major.
Wetzstein says that in Damascus it is called
Mismār, a Needle or
Nail.
As marking the north
pole it bore the latter's title, Al
Kutb al Shamāliyy,
the Northern Axle, or Spindle, from
Al Kutb,
the Pin fixed in the under stone of a mill around which the
upper stone turns; and this same thought later appeared in
English poetry, as in Marlowe's History of Doctor Faustus,
where he says of the stars that
All jointly move upon
one axletree // Whose terminine is term'd the world's wide
pole.
The Arabian
astronomers knew it as Al Kaukab²
al Shamāliyy,
the Star of the North,
² Kaukab is the
same as the Assyrian and Chaldean word Kakkab, the
Hebrew Kōhābh; this last has also the fighting name
of Bar Cochab, the Son of a Star, who was the leader
of the second revolt of the Jews in 132-135, during the
reign of Hadrian, his shekels bearing a star over a
tetrastyle temple. The name was variosly written, but
correctly as Bar Coziba, from his birthplace.
an appellation perhaps
given by their nomad ancestors to β [Kochab] as nearer the
pole in their time ..." (Allen)
