In the C text we have encountered a pair of
vero glyphs (probably denoting the presence of the spear-armed Tanist of
Hercules), vero glyphs which seem to imply a jump in time with 16 days,
from the Thigh of the great Bear (Phekda, γ Ursae Majoris) to
the 'Liver' of the great Lion (his highest point, Cor
Caroli, α Canes Venatici). And below the uplifted left back leg of the Great
Bear was Leo Minor, the stars of which I have not cared to collect
in my list:

Perhaps this forward shift with 16 glyphs
means the first possible night to observe Phekda after her
heliacal conjunction with the Sun was when the Sun reached
Cor Caroli 16 days later. At the star time of the Bull the
latter point in time could have been found out by observing for
instance when the Whip (γ
Cassiopeiae) was close to the Full Moon. But on Easter
Island Cassiopeia was
too far high up in the north and a better choice would have been to look at
the stars in Cetus or in the Toucan.
Glyph 378 (as in the
synodic cycle of Saturn) could have coincided with *JANUARY
25 (180 + 210 = 390) and 2 days later (in day 392 = number
of glyphs on side a of the C tablet) there is a figure with an
uplifted hind leg, a kiore, holding a little henua.
Kiore
Rat. Vanaga.
Rat, mouse; kiore hiva,
rabbit. P Pau., Mgv.: kiore, rat, mouse. Mq.:
kioē,
íoé, id. Ta.:
iore, id.
Churchill. |
There were no bears
(nor lions, nor bulls) on
Easter Island, but there were rats.
Neither were there
scorpions, and instead the rongorongo writers had chosen the shark
as the correspondingly dangerous figure:
Mago
Spotted dogfish, small shark. Vanaga.
Mogo,
shark. P Pau.: mago, id. Mgv. mago,
id. Mq. mano, mako, mono, moko id. T. maó,
id. In addition to this list the word is found as
mago in Samoa, Maori, Niuē,
and in Viti as mego.
It is only in Rapanui and the Marquesas that we
encounter the variant mogo.

...
Here, in a very
condensed form, is a typical Fijian myth of the origin of
the current ruling clan (mataqali): A handsome,
fair-skinned stranger, victim of an accident at sea, is
befriended by a shark who carries him ashore on the south
coast of Viti Levu. The stranger wanders into the
interior where he is taken in by a local chieftain, whose
daughter he eventually marries. From this union springs the
line of Noikoro ruling chiefs, the narrator of the
story being the tenth descendant on that line. He and his
clansmen are called 'The Sharks' (Na Qio) ... It is
all as in the Hawaiian proverb: 'A chief is a shark that
travels on land' ...

The 4 precessional days from Gregory XIII up to
the time of rongorongo could have motivated the tail fish (ika
hiku) in Ga7-12, because I have perceived a similarity
between the ika hiku type of glyph and the carapace house of a
shark baby:

are among the common objects which are washed up by the sea.
Because they are lightweight, they are often found at the

hatched out ...
