An argument for 229 glyphs on side a of the G
tablet was, I think, to tell the reader the end of side a
coincided with the end of the year:

Or better, to make the number of glyphs to
be in harmony with the season - the reader could hardly
miss all the other signs telling about the end of the
year.
Alcyone (together with Pleione and Atlas)
rose with the Sun in May 16 and this was day 136 counted
from January 1. 365 - 136 = 229. And the midnight culmination of these 3
stars coincided with December 31. 365 - 136 = 229. This
was at Ga8-18, when Alhena was at the Full Moon.
... The water dots invite us to count,
and one of several possible structures is:

46 + 91 = 137, which could point at May
17 (137). But the last of the water dots is special and
we should probably instead count 46 + 90 = 136 (May 16),
when at the time of rongorongo and according to the
Gregorian calendar Alcyone rose with the Sun ...
Due to the precession the last day of the
year would move among the stars - it was just a
'coincidence' there 'happened to be' 136 days from the end of the
year to the day when at the time of rongorongo Atlas
rose with the Sun.
But the distance from the midnight
culmination of Atlas, Alcyone, and Pleione, to the day
of their heliacal rising did not
change by the precession. These 136 nights was therefore a part
of the ancient structure of the cosmos. 229
glyphs for side a of the G tablet was a sign of a
further 136 nights directly ahead.
365 days from the beginning of the text
was at heliacal Hyadum II, corresponding to 0h at the time
of the Bull, and at the Full Moon was Yed Posterior in
the Serpent Carrier.
This was 8 nights after Alcyone, Pleione, and Atlas -
8 nights which resembled those well known 8 dark nights before Venus
was reborn again as Morning Star:
