By studying the text of Mamari (especially side a) it becomes evident that tagata rere glyphs were used to mark the end of seasons:
Ca7-9 and Ca8-12 are looking back and their meaning, therefore, should be the opposite - they mark the beginning of a season. When counting time number 240 will be equal to 'time zero'. Another example, on side b, shows tagata rere located just before a Rogo glyph:
This Rogo seems to identify the end of a cycle with 6 months, each counted as 28 nights. 6 * 28 = 168 = 7 * 24. Rogo is positioned at 'time zero' and the following vero glyph presumably 'kills' the old 'year'. The maro string growing at left means 'growth is in the past'. |
