We have now looked quickly on the first 6 of the nuku glyphs in Q:
The idea of rima vae (no 'fire') has been tested where it should, viz. at the beginning of side a, where spring sun should rule and where there ought to be much 'fire'. Arguments have been found to explain all 6 nuku glyphs. The Moriori fishermen have told us that 8 daughters were born of heaven and earth: "... Ruanuku, Motu ariki, Te Ao marama, Tu mare, Ranganuku, Matariki, Wari, and Ro Tauira the pattern-maid - these were the females. These were Rangitokona's descendants born of heaven and the earth ..." (Legends of the South Seas) The first daughter was Ruanuku. I guess she is mentioned first because she ought to be located at the beginning of the 2nd half of the year, the time when spring sun has left and moon will rule the sky. Sun is reborn at the beginning of the 1st half of the year and moon at the beginning of the 2nd half.
The hole in the ground (rua), to vomit (rua), two (rua), are signs we have met when the head of the spring shark disappears, e.g.:
According to the Tahitians Ruaroa was the tropic of Capricorn, and the Marquesans had it as a constellation, presumably rising to announce the 11th month. The 11th month is the first beyond the 10 of the sun. The beginning of the 2nd half of the year coincides - we have learned from the rongorongo texts - with the end of the 10th month of spring sun. It presumably is the time of Ruanuku, the firstborn of 8 lunar double-month daughters of heaven and earth. |
