Now when the overall structure of the H text has been revealed, we can take up our investigation of honui glyphs. These are the ones we have decided to put into focus:
The first two measure out 76 days (we now know):
228 = 12 * 19 = 8 * 28.5 indicates the 'spring half' of the year. Together with 104 days at the end of side b we have 76 + 104 = 180 days, and if we incorporate also the glyphs Ha1-1--6, we will reach 182 days:
Ha5-22 is located at the beginning of the 2nd cycle of the sun, in the intercalated day number 2:
The 'egg' inside honui in Ha5-22 is a hole filled with fluid (like all eggs are). The hot spring sun has left and beyond Ha5-24 where the 'egg' is uplifted, as if to indicate the arrival of a new season, we can once again begin to count 180 days. Both Ha1-7 and Ha5-22 are located at the very beginning, of 'spring' respectively 'fall'. |
