2. Legs are similar to arms, both are limbs. Yet there are obvious differences, and it may even be imagined that legs are opposite to arms, an idea supported by how they are represented in the rongorongo system:
The arm is stretching upwards, the leg is oriented downwards. The joints are oriented leftwards (rima) respectively to the right (vae). The hand has a thumb, not so the foot. From this opposition in picture follows with high probability an intention of opposition in meaning. Hand is reaching skywards, foot is in touch with the ground. If we know the meaning of the rima glyph type we will know the meaning of the vae glyph type. In the afternoon sun is 'waving goodbye' using the rima sign, while during p.m. he is showing a gesture of eating similar in form to an upside down vae glyph:
The opposition between the 'gesture of eating' and the 'gesture of waving goodbye' is though not the same as that between the glyph types rima and vae. |
