SIGNS

In Tahua there is an elaborate exhibition over Matariki i nika and Matariki i raro. During the time when the Pleiades are visible (i nika), the glyphs for what probably are the subdivisions of this period are standardized (with one exception) and we therefore have an example of an unmarked type of glyph which is a compound of three fundamental glyph types (matariki, ragi, tea):

Aa7-4 Aa7-14 Aa7-20 Aa7-28 Aa7-42 Aa7-53 Aa7-63 Aa7-70

The distinctions between the glyphs for the different subdivisions of Matariki i nika are clarified by other means than by including additional signs into this compound type of glyph.

When the Pleiades are invisible (i raro), on the other hand, the glyphs for the corresponding subdivisions of the period are marked in many different ways, some of which I have tried to describe in the table below:

Aa8-7 Ab1-11 Ab1-51 Ab2-40 Ab2-83 Ab7-6 Ab7-60 Ab8-49
normal head, but leaning as in nika medium head medium head big head big head big head big head, big 'eye' big head
left flame big right flame small left flame small     one flame missing big flames big flames
henua like right part of GD25 henua like right part of GD25 henua like right part of GD25 thick short henua thick short henua short henua cut off at bottom long henua short henua cut off at bottom
right part of body vertical, left part not right part of body vertical, left part not short body, left part not vertical short body, left part not vertical right part of body vertical and longer right part of body longer, but bent right part of body vertical and longer

Note the symmetry between i nika and i raro regarding the glyph with one flame missing: Rotating the sky 180o will move this glyph from being no. 3 from the beginning to being no. 3 from the end (if we ourselves remain still and do to not rotate in the same way).
