The first thought, viz. about
tagata illustrating a fully
grown warrior and that therefore the
glyph type is a proper symbol for
the 'season of zenith', must be
modified when other signs are added:
Still, though, a powerful 'person' (tagata)
illustrates a great season.
At noon the a.m. 'person' is fully
grown, at autumn equinox the summer
'person' is
fully grown. The idea of fully grown
is what tagata signifies.
Using picture language one could say, for example, that
'noon' is the time when the sun
(day) has reached the age when its
initiation rites are due, when
the day no longer can be an unruly
youngster but must accept the habits
of a grown-up person.
Tagata does not show a canoe
or anything which may allude to the
journey of the sun. Instead the
frame of reference is the
development of a 'season' as a
'person'.
